About the Department
The Department of Economics is committed to holistic academic development by integrating theoretical knowledge with practical exposure and skill enhancement. The department regularly organizes guest lectures and career guidance sessions delivered by academicians, industry experts, and professionals to familiarize students with contemporary issues in the Indian and global economy and to guide them in making informed career choices.
To strengthen experiential learning, the department organizes educational visits to premier financial and academic institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), National Stock Exchange (NSE), and reputed academic institutions. These visits provide students with first-hand exposure to the functioning of financial markets, policy institutions, and academic ecosystems, thereby bridging the gap between theory and practice.
In line with industry requirements, the department conducts certificate courses in R and Python, equipping students with essential data analytics and quantitative skills. These initiatives aim to enhance employability, promote analytical thinking, and reduce the academia–industry skill gap.
The department has been consistently organizing the A. D. Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition, which serves as a platform for students to develop public speaking, critical thinking, and articulation skills, while fostering awareness on economic and social issues.
To promote social responsibility and experiential learning, the Department of Economics has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). These collaborations facilitate community engagement, field-based learning, and internship opportunities for students.
Additionally, the department has taken proactive steps to strengthen alumni engagement, leveraging alumni expertise and networks to create opportunities for mentorship, internships, skill development, and employment for current students.
Through these academic, professional, and community-oriented initiatives, the Department of Economics strives to nurture socially responsible, skilled, and industry-ready graduates.
