About the Department

History:
The Philosophy department is among the oldest departments in the college. The department has a rich legacy of eminent scholars, philosophers and stalwarts from the field including Prof. Angelo Moses (student of former president, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan), Prof. K. Valicha, Prof. Sheshadri, Dr. Davindra Kaur Basin, Mrs. Rajashree Kolhatkar.

The department has always been in the forefront of students’ holistic development and has organized several programs involving philosophy, psychology, logic and counselling for the same. The Philosophy Cub, started by the Department, has been an important medium to popularize and familiarize the subject among the students.

Objectives:

1) To impart a comprehensive understanding of major philosophical traditions, concepts, and thinkers from Indian and Western philosophy.

2) To develop critical, logical, and analytical thinking skills among students.

3) To encourage ethical awareness and moral reasoning in personal and social life.

4) To cultivate values such as tolerance, rationality, social responsibility, and respect for diverse viewpoints.

5) To prepare students for higher studies, research, teaching, and careers requiring analytical and ethical competence.

Photo of Third Year students at Registration Desk for Credo: Fest of Philosophy Department, inaugurated in the year 2022-23.

Philosophy club organized a Movie Screening of “Call of the wild” was showed to the students and the event was open for all the students.

Annual Industrial Visit for academic year 2023-24: Kaivalya Dham was organized for the students of philosophy as part of their curriculum.

Credo 2023-24 Annual Departmental fest was organized, and the event was inaugurated by Dr. Amita Valmiki, Head of Department of Jhunjhunwala College.

Career Counselling session was organized by the Department of Philosophy for the students which focused on Academic and Professional opportunities in Philosophy.

Online session on ‘Art of Reasoning and Critical thinking’ was organized as part of Certificate course, and it was open for all the students.

Parent Teacher Meeting 2025-26 was held to guide and introduce the subject for FYBA students and their parents; academic performance of SYBA & TYBA students was discussed with their respective parents.

Credo 2025 -26 Annual Intra college fest of philosophy department, which was academic and cultural event, it was inaugurated by Dr. Mrigendra Rai, Vice Principle and Ms. Manisha Sakure, Dean of the Arts department.

Annual Industrial Visit for academic year 2023-24: Saguna Baug Department organized one day trip to Saguna Baug where students were offered exposure to various activities, and they enjoyed the new experience.

Field trip of TYBA students: As a part of their field project, 3 days trip was organized to Nashik.

The celebration of Yoga Day, meditation, was engaged for the TYBA students, to experience the practical aspect of the theoretical syllabus.

Philosophy club organized an event: Atomizing songs- going beyond lyrics.
